If there is any purpose at all I would say its evolution. It explains our relatively short life spans, to get rid of the old models. It explains why things like gene crossover happen. There wouldn't be a point in reproducing if everyone were clones, we would have never made it past single cells.

Sometimes people in medicine really overestimate their importance. I mean, if they stopped to think for a moment they would understand that farmers are the most important. Maybe one day you will die due to a disease, but you can die much more quickly by not having anything to eat.

No him, but you're the one who has to explain. Why do you think philosophical concepts like purpose have anything to do with the study of what organisms are and how they operate? You might say the "purpose" of an ear is to take in sound waves and produce useful behavioral responses, but that's anthropormphizing a mindless sequence of natural events that eventually resulted in ears existing and has nothing to do with what biology covers.

Nah, it wasn't paraphrased. After that sentence he actually made an example about how an important priest had to get undergo a surgery because of a particular sickness. Moreover he proceeded to say that doctors are almost saints while every person who is rich is surely a bastard who destroyed society. There are evolutionary pressures however, that result in specific functionality. That functionality, and what causes an organism to excel, is the ability to reproduce. Reproducing and surviving long enough to do so is the purpose of every biomechanism that makes up an organism.

Correct, the question of the meaning of life is nothing to do with biology, even though, yes, we are biological organisms. You know this already, because no matter have naive you are, you know that when philosophers discuss the meaning of life, the discussion is nothing to do with the propagation of DNA.

Again, it’s a philosophical (moral) question.

>> No.10719385

>>10719228
Maybe we just think differently but I think basic social constructs are embedded in our DNA. They would then act more like an emergent property (forming more complexity and definition over time and population) rather than to simply assume opinions are byproducts of free will. So in this particular example, it is beneficial for a species to have a mostly positive view of life (such as being beautiful, important, or valuable) and thus applicable and rooted in hard science. I see exactly what you're trying to say, and if I were full nihilist I'd agree with you, but I think the difference in our thinking is you separating so-called "subjective thought" from nature's intentions.

Okay you dumb dumbs, let me explain this in a way you can understand.

Reproduction, just like sleeping or eating, is just a randomly evolved mechanism that HAPPENED to sustain the existence of the organism, which in itself does not have a purpose whatsoever. The organism survived NOT BECAUSE IT CHOSE TO, but simply because it happened to be alive due to all of the evolved mechanisms that allowed this to be possible. To say that reproduction is the purpose of life is equivalent to saying that eating food or sleeping is the purpose of life. Without them, reproduction wouldn't be possible, and vice versa. They are equally important to the organism and, at the same time, equally unimportant in the eyes of nature. Some organisms can live for a thousands years, and if something like this is universally easy to achieve in our universe, the mechanism of reproduction wouldn't even be necessary.

With that said, you people really need to have a better understanding of natural selection and science in general.

More precisely, life attempts to survive and reproduce because only that kind of life can maintain its presence.
(The survival instinct became a universal fact because those lifeforms who didnt have it just died out.)

OP is a faggot though, because "purpose" isn't real. This abstraction of social instincts that we call "rule of law" is also not real. The only real laws are the laws of physics.

>Reproduction, just like sleeping or eating, is just a randomly evolved mechanism that HAPPENED to sustain the existence of the organism
^This.
There's a big difference between deciding to do something for a purpose vs. evolutionary biology which is a retrospective look at whatever emerged and persisted long enough for us to know about it.
Calling that purpose is literally backwards thinking. It's not that an organisms does what it does to not die out. It doesn't die out because of what it does, which might sound similar but it's really not.
e.g. Bacteria don't purposefully build up a resistance to antibiotics. What happens is the antibiotics kill most of the bacteria and it's a tautology whatever *didn't* get killed probably had some traits that happen to make it less vulnerable to those antibiotics than other instances of bacteria are.
Nature's just throwing a bunch of shit on the wall and some of it inevitably sticks.
