Imagine the type of poster who begins these threads. He wants to imply that IQ is both measurable and relevant. This poster must believe that he is above average in IQ, otherwise he would not stress its importance, but the sum total of his accomplishments make him feel small in contrast to high-achieving individuals and success stories. Seeing that he will never accomplish anything great or otherwise be recognized in his own life, he turns to this number to verify his intelligence. His ego becomes so brittle that anyone who would even insinuate that IQ is meaningless by itself is unintelligent. Why then does he repeatedly parrot these statements? He has a latent desire to be recognized for his intelligence, and he does not acquire this to a sufficient degree in his own life, so he enters a community which he perceives to have some level of achievement (the bane of his existence) to press that it is not so bad that one does nothing with his life, so long as he meets an arbitrary threshold which keeps his delusion alive.
