I don't know what methods you used, but It mostly comes down to exercising a Lot, even If you fail you learn a lot. Maybe try solving some and asking for her input. I'm not THE brightest with people but i don't think she would refuse helping if she likes math.

Start by watching your normie-core shit like Numberphile/mathologer or whatever the fuck to try and brainwash yourself into thinking that you know more than you actually do because you know what the words "Riemann Zeta" mean but you can't really explain it. Either way initially it'll make your mathematical dick feel bigger than it really is.

Second of all, start watching some proper shit like Khan Academy or whatever once you've moved on from your normie shit that has probably slapped some watered down concepts into your face. This is where you begin to add some meat to those bones. Start by learning precalc and then move onto calc. Calculus is fucking easy, and if you can't understand it, a. it's because your class is shit or b. you don't have a brain. If you understand what a function is, it should be super fucking easy. Watch shit like 3B1B's Essence of Calculus series in your spare time to grasp the concepts with some more physics-y ideas. Then move onto Linear Algebra. This is super super fucking important so don't get freaked out and pussy out because of the scawwy vectors or whatever the fuck. Again 3B1B has a series on Linear Algebra so watch that.

Next move on and start reading some more hardcore intro to analysis shit. Start with Lebl's Intro to Real Analysis since it's free. Or just sell your soul and procure Spivak's Calculus by whatever means you can. Then once you feel confident enough move onto Gordan and Rudin. Rudin will give you enough maths BDE for you to have a say in some things.

From there it's pretty much open to whatever you want, but at least here you'll have some foundation for you not to be a dumbass. Also use some dirty talk with your grill like "i wanna be the derivative to lay tangent to those curves" or "i assure you my hardy littlewood is maximal"

Now go out there, realise that you can't do anything with it as a career, and become an alcoholic who sleeps on a pile of failed Riemann Hypothesis proofs.

If you don't understand it then it's because you haven't sufficiently practised and mastered the pre-requisite methods and principles for whatever it is you're trying to wrap your head around. Take things back a tier, and ensure that you're more fluent in more basic maths that builds up to what you ultimately want to know. By the time you are prepared to actually tackle the concept that you originally wanted to, you will know that you 'understand' maths.
