Should I graduate in maths if I already know that I'm not a genius and won't make anything of important and probably end up being a teacher (the thing that I hate the most) or just swallow the pill and study engineering and get a comfy high paying job?

This is your insecurity talking. You won't make it only if doing mathematics isn't what you are comfortable doing as a career. As in, reading it as a part of your routine, doing your own exercises, etc etc. It's less about being intelligent enough and more about whether you actually devote yourself to it. The same is true of any PhD.
Also, being a researcher first and teacher second isn't bad at all. I like young people, but my research is still first and foremost my goal.

of course research should be your primary goal, unless you always wanted to be a teacher.
Research is taking what you learned and making new discoveries - it is the essence of intelligent humanity

Double major in an engineering + math. It's what I'm doing: best of both worlds.

Bumping this because I'm having the same problem. I really do love maths but I don't think I'll ever accomplish anything, and I'm an idiot who is super unconfident in his work.

What do /sci/?

I did try nofap for a while but it never helped. I just felt irritated.

If you love it, you'll make it :)

I am not a super intelligent guy, but I've always enjoyed doing math. I think at least for a bachelor degree in mathematics, most people if they study hard would not find the work to be that daunting. For work I think it depends, unless you are doing a doctorate in some mathematical field, your work in the private sector will be within the parameters of what is expected for a mathematician with a bachelor/master's degree to understand.

t. master's degree kind of average guy working for a private company doing modelling

Yeah? How long? Probably less than 2 months? Maybe even less than 1 month?

The same : don't have regrets, and do what you like ! You will be happy, that's it !

You can make alot of contributions even if you're not a genius, if you can finish a math major and a graduate class in math/understand it you are atleast smart which means you can make alot of contributions, maybe not big, but still alot, but do what you like.Don't force yourself to learn math if you don't like it.

>> No.10704964

Just do what you like while you still can OP. Life is so fucking short and even when you get that "comfy" job it's probably going to eventually turn into mundane bullshit anyway. If you really don't care for math that much than sure, but if you can't stop thinking about it (like me) then you should keep going.

>let them eat cake
t. 140+IQ

You say things like this purely to validate yourself. If OP is dumb then the amount of effort required to succeed in math is likely beyond his abilities. Bullshit like this is easy for you to say.
