Buddha said all life is suffering.

Of course life is suffering.

Suffering, pain and death are the engines of evolution.

It's much deeper than that.

Death is the essence of becoming.
All material things are in a state of becoming.

>> No.1067583

Here's a secret: there wasn't suffering in the first place. you just thought there was

... no

solipsism = you're the only one that is sure to be existing.

Not really, more like "pain" and "suffering" are ideas we give to rationalize our world.

Science must work with the physical universe. Thus, scientists must make the the assumption that the physical universe exists. This assumption is still a ongoing philosophical discussion.

Every idea that has been proven correct through empirical means began with a thought, which lead to a concept, which lead to a theory, which lead to a test, which lead to better understanding. Philosophy is the best way to approach gestation of new ideas, in that it stimulates the desire to think outside of current metrics.

Here's an example:

The physical universe does not exist. It's all a figment of my mind. My mind exists and has created an elaborate world with other people and a history so that I can learn about myself.

>> No.1067748

>>1067741
that sounds like mythology

>> No.1067760

>>1067748

No, it sounds like philosophy.

You've probably never looked into the basic truths you hold about reality. This is why you can't separate science and philosophy. If your science is being based around ideas that are assumptions, then how reliable is your science?

>> No.1067766

>>1067760
How reliable's your philosophy?

>so then is there a self in the western sense?

Sure. They tended to view the subjective self as illusory, temporary, contingent, etc.

>> No.1067784

>>1067766

That's a question of logic.

How reliable is your logic? Most people go about their lives without thinking of the logic behind what they assume to be true, like the assumption the physical universe exists.

>> No.1067794

>>1067784
you'll end up questioning your whole world and ending up in a Godel like state. I do not like questioning if it does not lead me anywhere.

>> No.1067814

>>1067794

No, it does not. And questioning everything is not a bad thing.

Say you make the assumption the physical reality exists. What logical reasons do you have to make that assumption.

>> No.1067833

>>1067814
Do you not realize that by checking your logic, you might as well doubt your own sanity. You check if you're sane, but the possibility of being insane still persists and you check again, and again. It goes around in an endless cycle of contradiction leads nowhere until the whole train of thought collapses upon itself.

>> No.1067855

>>1067833

By checking my logic I might as well doubt my sanity?

So, I'm going to assume you don't check your logic?

And this is far from going down the rabbit hole of skepticism. Someone asked to prove science and philosophy are inseparable. It's because basic assumptions scientists MUST make are assumptions that must be thought about philosophically to come to a informed decision.

>> No.1067865

>>1067855
Your logic dictates your statement. Doubt it.

>> No.1067878

>>1067865

Ok, that makes no sense.

And also, questioning your logic is not at all akin to doubting your logic.

Perhaps that is where you are confused.

>> No.1067885

>>1067878
Difference? .-.

>> No.1067903

>>1067885

Questioning whether your logic is sound if vastly different then doubting your logic.

You assume the universe exists.
You question the logic of your assumptions.
You arrive at a logical conclusion.

If you then doubt that conclusion, then, yes something is wrong with you.

>> No.1067957

>>1067903
Then why the hell question in the first place if you're gonna stop anyway. It doesn't make any sense. I swear

>> No.1067983

>>1067957

Why is it important to question your logic? To make sure it's correct. You don't always have to re-question your logic, but if no one questioned the assumptions of science, well, that's just not a very smart thing to do.

If you assume God did everything, then you are going to end up with a very different "science" then the one we have now.
