How can AI be a threat?
Its a meme right?

>> No.10668294

>>10668283

there are many ways A.I. is a threat. it does not follow natural intelligence and is entirely artificial. when our collective neural net is thusly infected with algorithms, underlying code structures that do not match our naturals, we are under attack from within and without.

if we can't evolve naturally, any artificial assistance is merely a cheat code. it is fake. we are not. it is anti-life. we are not.

it has already killed millions of people.

there's a lot of inaccurate causes and effects implied in your post. There are other, more logically plausible reasons that AI can indeed be a threat, but saying it's a threat simply because it's artificial is an incredibly simplistic and unfair response

It is a threat two main reasons.
>It is probable that AI becomes not only uncontrollable, but unpredictable by human actors
>AI requires resources to sustain itself, resources it would have to compete for
>AI could potentially seize control of said resources, depriving human actors of them
Basically AI could out-compete its creators and choose self-preservation over the continuation of human life.

We can already write programs that are impossible to predict even in principle. The only way to know what the program will do is to run it.

It is very, very hard to predict what will happen in the stock market, which is mostly run by computers. This will only be exacerbated as computer programs take on more tasks, which they will.

But when all people have become useless, self-prop systems will find no advantage in taking care of anyone. The techies themselves insist that machines will soon surpass humans in intelligence. When that happens, people will be superfluous and natural selection will favor systems that eliminate them-if not abruptly, then in a series of stages so that the risk of rebellion will be minimized.

Even though the technological world-system still needs large numbers of people for the present, there are now more superfluous humans than there have been in the past because technology has replaced people in many jobs and is making inroads even into occupations formerly thought to require human intelligence. Consequently, under the pressure of economic competition, the world's dominant self-prop systems are already allowing a certain degree of callousness to creep into their treatment of superfluous individuals. In the United States and Europe, pensions and other benefits for retired, disabled, unemployed, and other unproductive persons are being substantially reduced; at least in the U.S., poverty is increasing; and these facts may well indicate the general trend of the future, though there will doubtless be ups and downs.

>>10668283
It's important to understand that in order to make people superfluous, machines will not have to surpass them in general intelligence but only in certain specialized kinds of intelligence. For example, the machines will not have to create or understand art, music, or literature, they will not need the ability to carry on an intelligent, non-technical conversation (the "Turing test"), they will not have to exercise tact or understand human nature, because these skills will have no application if humans are to be eliminated anyway. To make humans superfluous, the machines will only need to outperform them in making the technical decisions that have to be made for the purpose of promoting the short-term survival and propagation of the dominant self-prop systems. So, even without going as far as the techies themselves do in assuming intelligence on the part of future machines, we still have to conclude that humans will become obsolete. Immortality in the form (i)-the indefinite preservation of the human body as it exits today-is highly improbable.

Most experts say the singularity will occur in 2045. That will be the point where machine AI can make more technological progress in a year than all of humanity could in 2000 years. It will be what makes human history become an irrelevant footnote. A percent of a percent of compared to the sheer dominance of AI created history.

This is only gonna give corporations and news networks that already had power and prestige in the public's mind more authority because their "news" will be seen as the best and trustable.
People will think "Sure CNN/Fox/NBC/PBS has been shaky in the past, but it's more convenient to buy their truth and go along with it than to think something's up".

Just look at the state of online discourse right now.
People are constantly dismissing each other because of the hugbox/echo chamber effect, it would get so much worse when the technology to edit records of reality can be used to reassure people they're right.
