>> No.10664878

>>10664866
Space race is a bad term, in my opinion. Because racers stop running once the race is over. This is exactly what happened after Apollo. The US didn't need to keep running, so they scaled back their space plans and messed around in LEO for decades. What we need is a space push or space migration. Not going to space for the novelty of it, but to establish mankind beyond Earth.

I miss the good old fashioned days where you'd raid somebody for a few days then promptly ignore them. Nowadays the strategy has turned to long term siege or war of attrition.

Google reCaptcha is broken and allows spam bots to post. More and more boards are being targeted and cross-targetted by several individuals and a few groups. They don't want their posts deleted so they skirt what won't get them banned. You end up with 1,000s of Skub, wojak, frog, shaming, and /pol/ centric threads flooding most of the faster boards on the website. On-topic posts like those in /sci/ or /g/ are normally anti-tech, anti-science, or try to use fear mongering. Like 5g, IQ, flat earth, and so on. It is starting to become an even larger threat now.

Look at the OP's post. It is wojak + shaming + anti-tech followed by immediate /pol/ type replies.

The threat of hostile government or non-government ("pirate") space programmes is real, if seemingly remote. This is just the latest in an endless list of manufactured "gaffes" and media hoaxes. Pic related.
>>10665815
You earnestly believed Ted Cruz was earnestly fearful towards Buck Rogers style space pirates. You never gave it a second, or even a first thought: you just genuinely lapped up a transparent lie, took it for granted, went around repeating it, and now that it's pointed out to you, you have the gall to play dumb. I know you're a goon and all, but shit, even goons used to have some kind of standards when it came to recruitment. I mean come on. Look before you leap.

Here's some tangible benefits of NASA

>Job provider for skilled engineers
There's a reason why SLS is so fiercely defended by representatives of poor states. NASA provides employment for millions.

>Satellite services
NASA has laid the groundwork for and continues to support the satellite industry for America. Services such as GPS, satellite communications, weather and crop tracking, and telescopes wouldn't exist without NASA.

>Spin off technologies
From LASIX to firealarms to composites thanks to NASA

>Space frontier
Like it or not. Space is the next frontier, and right now if China claims part of the moon for themselves then the United States has no way to challenge that. Cutting funding to NASA would mean that America will be left behind once other nations start carving parts of the Solar system for themselves.

>Asteroid redirection
Asteroids are a very real threat and should be taken more seriously. The reason why they aren't is because we haven't had a major disaster from one yet. Lets keep it that way.
