I have struggled for and gained acceptance in the past. I am an aircraft mechanic with constant exposure to chemistry and engineering. I have touched wrench to spacecraft. I am not a classically trained scientist but I keep occams razor in my pocket. I see more science than /sci/, even if from a dog's point of view.
