This was the best board I could think of posting. So I just graduated and started working. All of my boomer parents, co workers and so forth all say the same shit to me. They say that now the hard work begins. That you should of enjoyed the freedom of school and the fun of it, cus now that's all gone. Just in general that school > work. Is it just me or are they stupid? I fucking hated school compared to work. Go to college for 6 hours, come back home to study and/or work a 4 to 6 hour shift at a minimum wage job. Rinse and repeat daily. With work, I go in for 8 hours and go home and do whatever the fuck I want without the stress of any papers, exams etc. I never though of college as the "fun time" in my life, it was stress about the grades, about tuition, eating ramen because of money. Now I work, i have excess income can go buy almost whatever I want.

Does it all depend on the degree that you go for? So I wanna ask to.
Whats your age, degree, and what is better time off your life, work or college? I'm 26, bachelors of science, master of physician assistant. And fuck college I wouldn't put it on my enemies.

Every time someone says do you miss college, I just laugh.

27, BS Biochem, currently 3rd year of PhD.
I have worked retail jobs and a job in industry.
Work fucking sucks. No major intellectual challenges, little freedom, structured schedule. Im dreading leaving college life, shit i wake up most days at 10:30 and set my own hours. Plus the people i interact with at uni are far more stimulating than at a job.

Work does still suck ya. I couldn't stand the SJW people at college, even in the science field at a Catholic undergrand school. Now in the workforce most people I talk to hate that shit and it makes me happy

I'm working an internship at a medium sized pharmaceutical company (albeit since I am handling regular work, it is equivalent to work someone with a bachelors or masters would be doing). It is far more interesting to me than most of my required classes were, since I am able to read cutting edge research and learn about new instruments very often. I also get to think of more efficient methods to do analysis on drugs. Undergrad is kind of miserable, going to class for 4-5 hours, doing exercise for 2-3 hours, then studying/doing homework for 4 hours. Even weekends are filled with catching up on projects/essays/studying for exams.

If you have a buggy program and can't figure it out in undergrad, you could spend 68 hours in 3 days trying to hammer it out before the deadline. If the same happens in a work setting, you just look up how someone else did it on the internet, try to apply it, get paid overtime, and potentially request help from others or suggest a decent contractor for your manager to bring in.

Also it depends on your uni and job. My internship is at a place consistently ranked one of the comfiest most well paid companies to work for, focusing on lifesaving medicine. The uni I go to is very intense at times and less than a 20% acceptance rate.
