Are any of you independent scientists or mathematicians? I.e. done research yourself and gotten published in a reputable journal? Especially with math, since it's a product of the mind and it's pretty easy to verify if someone is bullshitting, why aren't there more indie mathematicians.

>> No.10607323

Why does it matter if your work is published in a reputable journal?

Verification, otherwise any schizo could publish anything they want and it would only need more into the glut of pseudoscience. Probably not the case with math since it's hard to bullshit.

Does it matter. /sci/ is supposed to be a place where both scientists and laymen discuss sciences. If you want to belong to the groups of people that chimp out because their co-authored article is published in some journal that is read by three or so people, then alright.

Why? Shouldn't a persons work be judged on their own merits?

If you want credit for your own discovery and increase it's it's viewership, publishing is the best option.

Lmao if you think journals are value-neutral.

yes, physics, a top journal

Because its a lot of work and you dont get anything of value in return?

What topic

That's literally all of science, no one enters academia for the money. Indie scientists may have a dayjob that gets them the income they want and do research as an avocation

Academics get paid to do research, so do people in the employ of companies and corporations. These people also have easy access to publications, equipment, space, materials, everything they need to research. To do this at home you need to pay out your own pocket a hefty fee just to read current papers. If you have such a passion to research you would have to be a total idiot to not be doing it as a job.

i have come to the conclusion that transformers are not what people think they are. they are categorized as a induction system. but how do they work?

well text books globally have different answers. the truth is that regardless of what answer you want to hear none of the answers work unless there is a break in the current. pulses or AC is required. but why? every transformer uses wire wraps. lots of them. why is the magnetic field needed? its just disrupting the coppers electrons forcing them to reorganize and the wraps on the other side catch the electricity

laugh but there are all these stupid rule about making a transformer and calculations rely on mass of the wire typically defines in terms of length not just number of wraps per primary or secondary. a piece of copper has a few free floating electrons. when depleted it will kill the transformer . transformers can die without the wires failing. why would a transformer die if the wires have proper continuity? the previously stated problem. and that shit gets recycled. depleted copper is in circulation

also why does a transformer on a circuit diagram have a line between the 2 coils? back in the 1800s there was a big copper plate between the 2 coils which did not have a shared piece of steel or ferite they were wrapped around. looking at that you would know how it works . the shift away from that design was about protecting trade secrets. to this day high end industrial inverter transformers for boosting voltage output have copper plates between some of the wraps

i did it .i solved the davinci code. text books globally give college students BS answers that dont sync with other regions BS answers. those feels when old circuit diagrams tesla scribbled down were the key all along. whats the line between the coils represent? its a copper plate

This doesn't exist. Becoming an "indie mathematician" is a pipedream, you have no idea how much of a social activity it actually is to do research level mathematics.
