Have you been to a Doctor about it?

I've had enough on my own I'm going to seek mental health help for similar reasons.

Download audiobooks and have the book open while listening to the audiobook at the same time. It really helps and when you're 10-20% into the book you feel invested and usually finish it.

I read about ~200 books a year (for entertainment).

Honestly books are overrated. I'm not smarter than other people because I read hundreds of books. It's just a form of entertainment after all. But I think it helps a lot with reading scientific papers.

Books on tape are kind of a bummer for me because I'm picky about the voice and intonation. Usually if the author reads it himself it's okay, but a lot of the better/more popular books hire some kind of actor whose voice just is actually just annoying. (See: Stephen Fry, Morgan Freeman. Patrick Stewart would be good but you can tell his lazy ass is doing it all in one take without ever having read the book so his intonation is way off.)

It's to get you started once you get invested into the story you don't have to force yourself anymore and you can just finish it yourself.

You guys all just have fucked up prefrontal cortexes. Both ADHD and OCD result from similar malfunctions in that brain region and are actually comorbid. I have ADHD, and have recently started taking adderall, which helps to some degree. As for OCD, i am not sure what to do.

What causes this?

You answered your own question. Cut out all forms of quick entertainment. No video, no social media, spend more time quietly by yourself with no external stimulus. Train your brain to like reading again.

Read The Shallows
by nicholas carr I beleive he is correct. Imagine spending 99% of your time using multi thinking and hardly ever using focus? It becomes clear that so many cannot focus for long times.

Now I have to admit I'm too tired to read at all, and I bet your problem to be something fucking full of shit.

Go to the shower and sleep. To work tomorrow. No other advice.

This is more of a /lit/ question but the solution is extremely easy. Read more short stories and novellas. Start with some of the easier writers like Hemingway and 'O'Connor (or you could start with light novels, thats what got me back into reading). Don't try to rush through them, take your time and relax. One thing that helps me get back into reading is to read some excerpts from different comic novels. Because jokes in written form have an entirely different impact on you than when they are spoken so its easy to get into the flow of things. Audiobooks I wouldn't recommend because they feel very passive to me. Reading requires your full concentration so the first few attempts will be difficult but stick with it and you'll be finishing books in no time.
God Bless OP

You're forgetting about OCD.
It's not something you can train yourself out of or just ignore.
