philosophy is so high because they read/debate A LOT. they know how to speak and write well to argue points with a huge knowledge base behind them from their reading on ethics and logic etc... That's practically the entire degree.

physics is so high because they obviously know a LOT of math but they are also writing research reports and have to have some kind of technical writing ability.

This chart
>>10581084
can be explained this way...

the more vocational the major, the closer to the bottom left it is. the more academic, depending on wither or not it's math or language based, the closer to the top right.

Also interesting is that according to this chart, pathology is the closest to average in all areas.

Education should be centred around the joy of learning first and foremost.
If you're really that worried, do philosophy as a minor, and choose another science/math field as a major. Me thinks that the abstract thinking required in Philosophy would assist in your effort to understand other concepts.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/225964/median-income-by-college-major-in-the-us/

While this data is from a different year (2013) and probably will deviate from more current data, I believe that the unemployment rate from math majors can be explained by the fact that majors in math related subjects are expensive to hire.

However, they also group statistics majors in with pure math majors, which I would argue is skewing the results a bit, given the fact that a statistics grad is in fact a highly sought after candidate for data science/analytics/tech related jobs.

I think it honestly comes down to which university you attended though, brand name recognition and all that.
