What is it like to do a PhD at a top university?

I'm starting mine at MIT this fall and while I'm excited, I fear this will be the most depressing and challenging time of my life.

At least you won't have to deal with shitty egocentric advisors.
That would be the only difference.

i found it both very challenging and in its own way very depressing (due to giving up a lot of normal life activities and facing some rejection from potential advisors i tried out with) but also rewarding in a lot of ways. then after finding a research group it was just very taxing and there were crisis moments of feeling lost... but finding motivation was possible for me and despite it nearly driving me insane, i managed to get the research done and published, and once i defended, it was so worth it. postdoc life is chill
