I'm pretty sure this phenomena is the great filter. Advanced society requires a certain level of equality, so that it can maximize logistical capacity. In doing so, however, it allows r-selected people to maximize at the expense of K-selected people.

Overpopulation of dumb people with the potential to glass entire cities. The only outcome this can possibly have is the collapse of society, and considering our civilization is nuclear, the collapse will likely lead to a nuclear event.
