Remind me why it's wrong to theorize about certain aspects of the universe that we have no idea about (dyson spheres, etc) and make videos in order to foster an interest in science?

The answer is simple. The people who said it was wrong were wrong

Because it promotes scientism not science, stem grads will feel like they wasted time when they find out they can't build a new world with their MechE degree. It brings in people who would be much happier doing other things and inflating competition for those who do genuinely like the real aspects of science. Imagine if some bald fat and ugly dude made a tinder profile of him looking like a model, it's effectively that, cat fishing for academics.
