The media manipulation/direction for this caused a polarizing effect which causes things like this. Complaining and complaining about complaining. "We have all this data but you only get a tiny blurry image." isn't really helpful, that's basically what I'm hearing from people. Most have only seen a tiny blurry image that's mostly black border because of news organizations. This is what you get after the initial novelty wears off, people want more. At my school we have a video wall with a large resolution version displayable, that helps. No one complains about resolution when standing in front of a 10 feet by 20 foot display.
I could make wild guesses about cleaning up the data differently or plotting some other way but I have neither the data or the code they used to produce this so it seems pointless.
