Depends on the work. For easier engi physics classes (strengths, for example) I can. Music while I model in CAD is necessary.

Usually play some youtube videos in the background, but it is highly distracting and I usually don't get shit done. I found that the best thing to work with is white noise. "3 hour rainstorm sounds"
