This is Mareki Honma of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan pictured at a press conference in Tokyo.

A Japanese professor, Honma, was one of the first to develop and work with VLBI code back in 2012.

Here's a link to one of his papers on the matter dated 2016:

https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1742-6596/699/1/012006/pdf

This is also the github of the entire project with its main contributors.

A team of more than 60 research institutions completely ignored by the American press as though they never existed.

Please remember they exist, /sci/.

Actual Group Photo of the Event Horizon Team the media is refusing to show.

Reminder the Algorithm was already invented by the Japanese Team and everybody else improved on it, especially these guys:

Andrew Chael, Mareki Honma, Hotaka Shoiwaka, Michael D. Johnson, Daniel Zoran, Vincent L. Fish, Shepherd S. Doeleman, and William T. Freeman.

well for one, there is no single "algorithm", 4 separate teams did it to get independent results

Point is all those articles giving credit to a single woman because they're written by "journalists" who want to exalt one gender over the other based on some bullshit ideology of eternal oppressors and oppressed.

Great, now take that point to a board where that manner of expression would be relevant.

The only reasonable locations that would most likely have a black person within that specific group is Texas maybe Spain.

I saw a really cringey facebook post of one of my friends saying how she was the "the young lady who is single-handedly responsible for it." and how the media isnt talking about it. i only have facebook for business things

Why don't you take your self-righteous board-policing and shove it up your ass anon?

>> No.10549551

who cares? NHK will still run the jap story about japs, as will each respective country. But fact is that most Americans don't give a shit about science, astronomy, or black holes so the only way it gets covered at all is if a picture of a happy intern is used to get clicks.

Bear in mind, just before the black hole announcement NASA's director poisoned the well by claiming he was serious with a 2024 manned moon landing. Of the space news that gets covered at all, this took all the oxygen in the room. The black hole stuff wasn't even mentioned on network TV, only "geek" popsci websites that all want a cute image so they can connect with trendy women who buy their magazines at airports.

You're trying to apply a scientist's logic onto a medium that doesn't operate by those rules.

Because there have been at least 5 different versions of this thread, all saying the same exact thing, and it gets tiring to refute it. You're not going to find any sympathy here because there is no science involved in talking about the people rather than the science they're doing.

Fair enough I guess. I just saw this one and commented here.
