query: the international scene/economics, zero sum game (the amount of happiness is fixed, for one to win, another must lose), positive sum game (all parties can win, or at least some parties don't need to lose) or negative sum game (it's a competition to see who loses the least)

I think it's positive sum game for at least 2 main reasons:

technologic developments can make previously useless materials (bauxite, for example) into fantastically valuable metals worth more than gold (aluminum, lol pre-electrolysis societies)

People are different, So take alice and bob, alice has turnips and bob has carrots, this ironically they each have what the other wants, but don't really like what they have. exchange between them would have both parties "winning"
