You get good research with good funding and good management. Those attract good researchers, and good researchers attract more good researchers.

Saying Singapore has good universities because the average Singaporean is smart is like saying Madrid has good football teams because the average Madrileño is a good football player.

They can buy the best equipment, pay for the best staff, and attract the quality students.

Genius researchers/students make good schools, not the other way around.

Schools with good funding can attract the geniuses.
Those geniuses are more likely to accomplish things.
The school gets credit for playing a role in those accomplishments and receives more funding.
Repeat.

The money attracts the quality and the quality attracts the money.

There isnt much difference on the bachelor level in between european Unis.
The ETH graduate courses can range from very good (taught by a fields medalist) to completely memey (taught by some swiss farmer from butthurt nowhere).
It's definitely not as competitive as MIT, but there isn't much competition on the bachelor level anyway.
Thirdworlders and eastern euros come to ETH, good people from ETHZ go to the US (MIT, UCLA etc.). This has always been the case.
The swiss gov has been pouring money like mad onto ETHZ to change that, but nothing has changed in the past 10 years. Swiss people just aren't very competitive academically.

Retard. Your meme ranks are useless. Anyone who understands how academia works knows that you have too look at the departments, not the universities as a whole. The best one to go is the one where the best researchers in your field work. MIT, for instance, doesn't even compare to european top schools in control engineering.
