Why does everyone here say chemistry is a meme field? Are there really no relevant jobs in the field? I want to do drug research and find new cures for deadly illnesses. What would I be looking at gettting a BS in chem?

BS by itself can get you a decent enough job, but it will force you into mgmt at a certain point. If you want to progress further and still do actually science you'll have to go back for a doctorate. If you end up in big pharma, some companies will fund your doctorate.
