If I do proofs all day will I git gud at upper level abstract math within a reasonable time frame?

Do you actually enjoy this?

>> No.10455508

>>10455471
No, but I'm tired of not being able to read a math based paper/method and implement it.

Why do you need to get good at doing proofs in order to implement a mathematical method from an existing paper?

>> No.10455527

>>10455513
Because I need to be able to easily understand the paper

>> No.10455533

Kind of difficult to imagine you will get good at them if you don't enjoy it

If you have brainletism/low IQ you won't.

what maths are you trying to learn?

Why? Are you a mathematician or a LARPer?

i think you should start by picking a particular field
ive been studying linear algebra because i was trying to read this paper: http://www.industry-academia.org/download/2014-asplos-quasar-Stanford-paper.pdf

and got stuck midway through
now i'm nearly done with with the course https://cs.brown.edu/video/channels/coding-matrix-fall-2014/ and feel like i'll have a much better shot at understanding the paper. and if parts are still unclear i'm confident i'll have a stronger base for filling in the gaps

Because Im majoring in Math and economics and I want to be able to quickly read a paper and be able to understand it so I may implement it. Or be able to think through and write my own models.

The machine learning meme hype made me realize how important it is to be able to read papers effectively to compete with ivy league pajeets
>>10455614
Right now that's what I've been doing, just studying concepts in abstract math and proving various problems

I'm just curious if this will be worth it long term
