How do you learn how to learn?

online, I guess.

Use stuff like mind palace that unironically work wonders.

It's not a Sherlock Holmes meme it really works to memorize a big fat load of informations.

Use associations, mnemonics and shit.

if you have curiosity and access to old encyclopedias it helps. you read a dictionary for fun, then you begin to explore some words you find interesting.

this develops into a past time like collecting butterflies, or bird watching, maybe amateur astronomy, hobby mathematics, could be drawing or painting which might develop into sculpture, perhaps is woodworking or blacksmithing, there are a lot of things that can emerge from just being exposed to a generic summary of all human accomplishment. then you pursue this interest deeply and gain an education from a trustworthy institution where maybe other people you now hold up as inspirational heroes from that field attended or are currently teaching in.

you may find the easiest thing to do is simply take a comprehensive online IQ test, and then see where your ceiling is:

>150+ mathematics and all the below
>140+ physics
>130+ chemistry, biology, engineering
>120+ law, medicine, arts, computer science, architecture
>110+ sales, marketing, advertising, finance, business, management
>100+ homemaker, laborer, tradesman, blue collar work
>90 and below: you will struggle to avoid drug and alcohol addiction, your life is better spent being quietly religious and avoiding reproduction.

Just like anything else, through trial and error. Which is why I think that exams and the more traditional model of education is still very valuable to most.

>potential is capped by IQ

Even if you have sub 90 IQ you can learn to do any of that stuff, it'll just take you more time. The benefit that high thought speed grants you is you can recheck and double check and cross reference things with spare time. Of course if you're lazy or uninterested or get distracted then having faster brain doesn't help.

However, in the spirit of OP's original post, what are some good was to "think faster"

1. LEARN CRITICAL THINKING. Google:

2. LEARN MEMORY PSYCHOLOGY. Google:

All of these have been overstated by, at least, 1 standard deviation.

i said ceiling.

you could do math with a 130 iq, you will just struggle immensely, and with 140 you will be a mediocre professor and feel lifelong frustration at your inability to make significant contributions to a field.

try to imagine yourself at 30 with your phd, at 40 your best years behind you, 50 now training younger students who might have a higher ceiling than you- even worse feeling if they dont, at 60 starting to look back on your career and realising you were just there to indoctrinate a new generation of people into empiricism and probably were a political actor this entire time without realising, 70 a wasted life, 80 angry and confused.

Maybe this?

>> No.10447378

For anyone lurking who has a genuine passion for pursuing an academic discipline, don't be dissuaded by the kind of retardation seen in >>10445191. I'd recommend reading what professional mathematicians have to say on this issue. This post from terry is especially relevant:
https://terrytao.wordpress.com/career-advice/does-one-have-to-be-a-genius-to-do-maths/
Also this:
http://talentdevelop.com/articles/HTBAG.html

Your mathematical ability, or anything really, depends on how much time you dedicate to it. You may learn slower or faster than some, and you may have to study like a madman, but you shouldn't assume your life will amount to nothing because "muh IQ". The types like >>10447318 don't realize this, as they lack the discipline required to put in the necessary time to reach excellence in anything whatsoever. Please don't take life advice from shitposters using IQ to rationalize their own failures.

>> No.10447393

>>10447378
tao was a child prodigy and genius, why would you take his advice? it came naturally for him.

how old are you? where is your life experience coming from? every single university professor, if pressed to answer, will tell you that there is innate talent and ability in physics, maths, chemistry, engineering, etc. and without it, you are always one step behind.

you _COULD_ work harder sure, but this isn't a problem of computation. we don't need more flakes in the stem fields, what we need is talent. there are already too many scientists who don't actually belong, but are there simply to make up numbers, to be science communicators and educators, it's a giant bloated bureauracy and nothing gets done because normies have invaded a space where only the passionate belong.

why are you lying to people? what do you get from filling up countless departments with C and B level students who squeak by on exams and never develop a fundamental base or understanding of the fields they study? what is your game trying to dumb down and expand every scientific field, do you want to halt all progress?
