High IQ people lack social skills on average. They get carried through life on their faster processing so people forgive their rudeness. Elon musk is one example. Low EQ
Trump is the flip side I believe. His IQ seems lower but he makes people like him. And he's socially ept. He seems to have a higher EQ.

It's applied psychology. Can you quantify psychology? Are some personalities and tendencies better than others? Maybe.
It's pseudoscience and more so than IQ because psychology is so hard to reproduce.

How does Elon Musk have low EQ? He has phenomenal branding skills. Any other company would have been shut down by now, given the setbacks Tesla has experienced. But Elon Musk has managed to retain some degree of confidence in Tesla stock. Besides, the whole idea of Musk being an inventor is a meme. He's a businessman, not a physicist, engineer, or a philosopher.

Both Musk and Trump are high, but not genius level IQ people who have high EQ. While I doubt that either could ever be rhetoricians, they're not terrible at off-the-cuff public speaking when you compare them to your average person, or even your average Ivy League graduate. If you got rid of the sleep deprivation that both of them probably suffer from, then they would probably do better at both. But high verbal IQ isn't necessary for "EQ", whatever that is.

I guarantee you that if I deprived you of sleep by working strenuous 20 hour days for months at a time and then put you on a stage to entertain a raucous crowd of people, without any preparation, you would sound a whole standard of deviation worse than that rambling monologue. This isn't even an insult, but rather a fact of life. Only if you're prepared or if you have unusually high verbal IQ can you give even a semi-coherent impromptu monologue that's longer than a few minutes. This has come from a lifetime of observation. Try writing down verbatim what your professors say during lectures and you'll see what I mean.

In his defense there's no actual need to use advanced vocabulary. All that matters to him in most speeches is that he get the message across to most people, and as such simpler words make that task easier.
In other words, it's sort of like asking someone to solve a grade schooler math problem with college level math: it might look neat and show that the person has intelligence, but it's unnecessary and overkill for most problems, if not downright worse than the simpler, quicker methods.
