If you can't land a job outside of your specific field of study then you wasted 4+ years of your life. Thinking college is supposed to be some escalator straight into your chosen industry and not a way to become more intelligent and competent overall is why so many graduates are becoming disillusioned and debt-laden.

how many mechanical engineers are gonna be unemployed?

I'm scared bros, i'm a junior mech major and i've applied for literally 102 internships the past 2 months and I haven't gotten a single response. I thought this was a good major for autists such as myself that are bad at networking.

I need help

MechE is a suicide-tier major.

t. took a year and a half to find an engineering job, only managed to finally get one through a friend, and now work outdoors on construction sites for half as much as an electrician makes, doing mostly manual labor (HVAC controls engineer)

You should be making more as a controls engineer. Have you considered going into manufacturing or petroleum?

I am desperately trying to get out of this job and applying everywhere else I can. Last month I was repairing VAVs in an occupied office from 5pm-4am, popping ceiling tiles and fighting off insulation, all with no shift differential. This month I start at 6am and have a 40 minute commute to the site.

this is where you finna understand boi-ohs

trade skills>knowledge
buinesses only care if you can do
mass spectrometry
know how to stain a plate
weld a joint
work in illustrator
know php
know C
know perl
know assembly
know adobe
know java
know how to run groups

all the knowledge in the world is useless if you cant put it to practical use.
and buisnesses dont care if you can identify parts of a frog, or fluid dynamics, or maslows heirarchy of needs. they only care if you know how to do the job so they can delegate instead of holding your hand through the process.

If you'd actually watched the lecture this gif is from you'd be agreeing with him. Just because you dont actively study a computer doesnt CS isnt the sistematic analysis and approach to data types and algorithms typically used by computers. Thus a science centered around computers and computation. Computer science.

Anyone who decides what to study based on national statistics and 'employment prospects' is incredibly naive. If you study mathematics at a fairly poor university and you aren't a total sperg-lord (you get good grades and can talk to people), you won't be hurting for job offers. The problem with using statistics in this case is that most people, regardless of their major, are wildly incompetent and can only do one or two things instead of being a well-rounded human being.

Don't listen to stupid 'degree tiers' on 4chan, you fucking imbecile.

There are plenty of good jobs that aren't related to STEM that most of you people ignore because you think it won't make you look smart. Law enforcement, for example, much better than staring at a screen all day, and they're killing for people to apply.

Tough shit. EVERYONE goes to university these days, meaning the job market is hyper-saturated with a bunch of people who should never have gone in the first place. You have to make sure employers know YOU aren't like everyone else, by going BEYOND what's expected of you on the course.
