How do I force myself into finding STEM interesting?

Dude, what? You can literally save peoples lives, live longer, literally defy/dominate matter with chemistry, engineer vehicles to explore the universe, structures to immortalize your legacy, be a fucking useful member of society... The status is supreme compared to other majors and career paths.

Trying to do the same here. I have other interests but none of them are secure or have any job opportunities outside of academia. So now I'm trying to get into STEM.

I'm glad my other interests that aren't secure are also inside of STEM, and I can work in /med/ three days a week while pursuing these.

Honestly bro, don't get too deep if it's not for you. I was making 35k a year, entry level working at a casino only 24 hours a week. There are many entry level opportunities you can find that will be sustainable while you pursue a passion. Just remember this, my friend... Anything worth doing is going to be difficult. Prepare for sacrifice.

Don't force yourself into doing something you don't like for a living. You'll be miserable. Make a list of the things you like to do and try to make a career out of one of them. You can choose the one you love the most, or you can choose the one that's more likely to get you a job.

If you get into something that doesn't interest you (1) your performance will be shit because you lack passion, (2) you'll have a hard time getting someone to hire you without passion and with shit performance metrics, and (3) you'll spend your life doing something you find boring.

Unfortunately, playing video games, jacking off and browsing 4chan aren't applicable to any career path. I'm a husk of a man with no genuine interests or passions.

Don't try. Just do what it is you actually enjoy, often because you're talented at it. I tried to delude myself into believing that I actually liked chemistry so I got a degree. But while I was studying I already asked myself why I bothered. Now I getting a law degree because that's what I've always enjoyed, was good at and wanted to be since I was like 6. If you're European you can try things, but if you're American you shouldn't try to force it. Your education is too expensive. In Europe you can just trial-error for free.

I would like the answer to this. I tried to to find the 'beauty' in it but failed to do so. I read up on great mathematicians but ended up getting demotivated because they were just plain geniuses. I look around my STEM classes and see students discussing physics/math with great enthusiasm and delight. They pay full attention to the lectures while I'm bored out of my mind. I envy their passion because I have none myself. I don't like anything. I'm not special, but I want to be. I struggle to even find 1 positive thing to say about myself. I'm not good at anything except being ignored. Why was I born?

>> No.10428452

>>10428417
Aye, it's okay Anon. I'm basically the same but with a passion, it's not much better. Sure I have a small sense of purpose, self worth, and that gets me some money/pussy - it only stops the existential dread for a short period.

>had some trouble with STEM because ADHD (never studied anything at all)
>end up doing law uni because I had no idea what to do and many comfy public jobs in my country require a law degree
>2 years later I'm almost dropping out from social anxiety and skipping presentations
>in those harsh times I rediscover stargazing at night and fall in love with space again, start listening to podcasts, reading stuff and browsing /sci/

Math has ALWAYS been my favorite subject since I was a child. Same with everyone else I know.

not a career choice. You can stream as a hobby and gradually increase your viewer count until hopefully one day make a living. But you can't make a choice to become a professional streamer, the same way you can't chose to prove Riemann Hypothesis. You can try, but odds are heavily stacked against you.

STEM isn't about STEM, it's about taking what you're interested in and doing something meaningful with it. I like the idea of immortality, so now I'm a PhD candidate in Biosciences.

When you have goals in mind and a directed approach to your learning, you'll find yourself encountering a lot of nuanced material that demands that you investigate further. I don't try to memorize a shitload of inane facts to store in my stampbook collection, I try to memorize a shitload of really interesting facts because I can see how they're directly related to my interests. And those interests grow because there's a lot of interconnectivity. Increasingly I want to know more chemistry, physics, mathematics, programming, but also, business and law. Like take math as an example: it's not because "derp I like numbers" that I want to study it. It's that things like the human brain and the immune system are really complicated and my barely-even-knows-Calc-level of math seems woefully unprepared for how these topics -could- be explored further.
