Anyone know anything about farming insects as a source of food and protein for humans?

Is it generally more efficient to farm insects or does it run into similar issues to beef?

more lives extinguished, more moral dilemmas of ending life for sustenance. But life is perhaps less mentally complex as a cow

But in terms of resources used, it is more efficient and some say it'll be a major protein source for the future. That is of course, if we're willing to give up other meat sources in order to build a sustainable ecology of this earth and prevent uncontrolled global warming. Which so far we're not willing to do that.

India, the middle east and half of Africa has lower population growth than the USA right now.

If we don't do something about it white people will be the only ones alive in the 23rd century. The UN is already campaigning about it and books are being written about the subject but keep acting retarded while spouting overpopulation bullshit from the 1990s while reality is almost the exact opposite.

1 gram of insect protein generates about 1/7th the amount of greenhouse gases compared to 1 gram of beef.
https://phys.org/news/2011-01-cattle-edible-insects-smaller-quantities.html

Insect farming requires dramatically less water.

Insects are also not prone to many diseases that could be dangerous to us, because they're not mammals and too far removed from our physiology.
Much easier to produce clean, hygienic mealworms than clean, hygienic beef, pork or chicken. They're also not exposed to pollution like fish.

I have sampled mealworms and grasshoppers.
Both tasted great but grasshoppers are not very appealing. Mealworms however taste great. In between chicken and potato. I would integrate them into my daily diet if they were cheaper. As of now it's a novelty food, more expensive than regular meat.

Someone should open a kebap stand but with mealworms instead of poultry.

It's the meat of the future.

fucking disgusting
The only way to do it is grind them up into a protein powder, and use that as an ingredient in various normal-looking foods.

How so?
If people eat shrimp and prawn, they can eat worms. Personally I think shrimp are far more disgusting than meal worms.

If you think insects are disgusting, but regular meat is not, consider this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Bovine_diseases

Insect farming however is very easy to get right. They're much simpler organisms and as such not vulnerable to many diseases found in cows, pigs and birds.

I ate insects twice, once at the museum, during an exhibition on sustainability, and once at an upscale restaurant that offered insect dishes.

Don't knock it before you try it.

Shop A can sell salted, fried worms as a snack.
Quite tasty. Good alternative to potato flips.

Powder also doesn't go well with salad. You can just sprinkle the worms over your salad.

Try to be more open minded.

Insect farmer here.
I used to farm mealworms. You can raise them on just about any grain. We used to use a mix of oats and leftovers from the beer industry. It's much more efficient than beef for sure.

Why I quit is because the main ingredients are:
- space
- heat (electricity)
- any grain

Obviously space is expensive in the NL and so is energy. Most bugs therefore get farmed in south asian countries since you need no heating and space is free. There is no competition. Bug farming in Northern countries is useless.

Any bugs you eat come from grimy Asian countries. No regulations. Fed on shit most likely.
