Is evolution convergent? Is there a singular best evolutionary solution to a given environment that every organism in the environment converges to?

the one that they are

>> No.10393453

not at all, depends on the niche an organism has in the ecosystem

Inside that niche, there is convergent evolution toward an ideal 'solution', yes.

>> No.10393550

>>10393480
nope, every organism is necessarily the ideal

I counter with cartoons.

Extend that to climate changes, etc.

All animals that can fly do so with wings, so maybe wings are a convergence of a sort. But the structure of insect wings, avian wings, and mammal wings are all drastically different.

On the other hand, the only animals with the ability to recognize their own reflection are us and a few closely-related hominins, and the structure used in accomplishing this is very similar.

So, maybe convergence is more common as the function of the adaptation becomes more narrow.

Then why are you so flawed?

At least in parts such as eyes that have evolved independently several times.
