Why don't we just use IQ scores if people want to hire/admit the best? The difference between a GPA of a 3.8 and a 4.0 is negligible, prove me wrong.

The practice effect is quite large, to the point where people can train for a SD gain in IQ. So once people catch on that IQ tests are important for admission into various institutes, they will start spending lots of time practicing those, invalidating the test to an extent. It's better to have people practicing actually useful academic material than the relatively useless questions found on IQ tests. Furthermore, at the high level, IQ tests lose resolution. The difference between someone with a 150 IQ and a 154 IQ cannot be said to meaningful in any sense. I would say this threshold is at around 145 IQ. All reputable IQ tests max out at 4 SD's by the way (approximately IQ 160).

To add to this: various institutes do use IQ proxies. Graduate schools use the GRE, which is a proxy for IQ. The military has its own battery of cognitive tests which correlate with IQ. Apparently some companies use the Wonderlic Test to test potential employees, which also correlates highly with IQ. Companies are free to use whatever means they wish to hire their employees (as far as I know, has PC culture prohibited the use of IQ tests for hiring purposes?), but most seem to opt for direct probing of knowledge and skills rather than administering a full scale IQ test that takes several hours to complete.

Because a high IQ cannot save you from being insufferable to work with, so there needs to be some kind of inspection process where someone, preferably higher up and trustworthy, meets with and interviews the applicant. If only there were some kind of successful process for this already in widespread use...

Because an IQ test is only authentic when you haven't trained for it.
"Training" for your GPA actually requires doing work, which shows commitment, aswell as authentic IQ.
