I think it is because methane is X times worse than CO2 where X>1.

Just like car emissions are based around NOx reduction. So have a large lambda (excessive oxygen to stoichiometric (fuck the spelling) ratio). You are actually burning more fuel coz excess O2/air in the mix is ineffecient, but NOx is Y x worse than CO2 or something so burning more fuel to make less NOx is what they do.

It seems retarded to me. Either the value of Y is fucking huge or greeny libtards havent thought about the bigger picture. I sincerely hope its the former.
