Is smoking really that bad for you? I am starting to think it's not.

in excess: yes, like everything else

Having lung cancer and dying isn't that bad.

I've been looking into it and it seems the link betwen the two is tenuous at best, it's the same with COPD.

>> No.10371333

>>10370944
No, the link is strong, stronger than just about any other cancer/lifestyle link.
It is understood both in theory (cigarette smoke contains known carcinogens) and practice (people who smoke actually get lung cancer more frequently). There have been loads of studies looking at this problem every possible way, different types of tobacco, different ways of smoking it, different amounts of tobacco smoked, etc.

It's a double-edged sword, like all drugs.
Possibly it can be beneficial, but also destructive.

wouldnt be nearly as bad or addictive if not for the 4000+ chemical additives, grow your own .
it may not always reduce lifespan but it will bring your health and exercise capabilities down

Two out of three cases are said to be caused by smoking. That means it triples the risk.

However nobody's talking about it's somehow

50 cases in 100 000 people are caused without smoking
100 cases in 100 000 people are caused with smoking

Out of 100 000 people 20 000 smokes.

That 20 000 people have 100 cases of cancer, therefore one in 200 smokers get lung cancer.

It makes your risk goes from 1 in 2000 to one in 200.

I think, it's quite strong cancer inducing agent, but mah nah 1 in 200 not gonna be me or you with high probability.

Excess cigarettes are harmful for most people and if you live a lifestyle that is already prone to inflammation through diet, lack of exercise.

But it’s not tobacco in isolation that is bad for you. Japan smokes a fuckton more than the US yet have lower rates of lung cancer. French live long too. But japan also does a different method of flu curing their tobacco and have less pesticides.

US surgeon general reports could not prove that moderate pipe tobacco and cigar result in increased mortality rates.

There is no hard evidence to show that smoking tobacco induces cancer. Only epidemiological studies, asserting causation from a correlation established with dubious design that seldom corrects for other lifestyle factors (eg diet, exercise, work place and occupational hazard) and inherently biased sampling techniques (eg self-selected participation, cohorts) exist.

Only people who haven't had family members die because of smoking/are smokers/have a gullible conspiracy theory or hoax mindset say this.
>>10370939
Yes, even in moderation people can die from it (my mom did). What really matters is at what age you started. If you started before age 17, you have exponentially greater chances of dying of lung cancer, even if you've only ever smoked sporadically or "on the weekend" or "with company" or whatever it is that you tell yourself.

It's too conflicting given Greeks and Japanese are both the most heaviest smokers and longest lived. Too many variables, and just as much antismoking AstroTurf to block parsing it.
