Colonizing Mars, for all the reasons evocated in the videos and more, will be nothing much but a pipe dream with no return on investment.
In fact, once we realize how futile it is to try to tame Mars, we'll definitely leave it forever, and maybe I hope relocalize our dreams into living among asteroids in the asteroid belts. In spining habitats. Shielded from radiation with hard asteroid shells. Mining precious materials.
Lets face it, living on Mars would be a terrible experience for any sane person and would bring nothing of value.

Maybe I phrased it the wrong way but what I meant to say is that you need to fight gravity to land things on Mars and launch stuff from it.
Space stations do not have this major inconvenient.
>Micro g is not an argument.
It is actually an argument, whether or not you like it.
From this perspective, mining the asteroid belt is a lot more worthwhile than mining Mars.

If humans ever tried to expand into space, colonizing the asteroid belt would be one of the first thing to do on the checklist instead of wasting time fighting against all the problems you would encountered on Mars.

Two things about that video: 1. A centrifugal habitat for artificial gravity like shown isnt possible on Mars, because the floor would need to be angled and thus you wouldnt have the same force throughout. For this effect to be unnoticeable they would need to be hundreds of miles big 2. Terraforming Mars is only possible if you masa-import greenhouse gases from the asteroid belt plus keep a giant artificial magnet field alive. At this point, it will probably be easier to just take mars and push it to an orbit much closer to the sun.

What im trying to say is, comfortable life on Mars will never be possible. Colonialists would forever live like molepeople.
