It's one of the most evil parts of mathematics, I am not even joking. The Monster group is fucking shit and on this annoying edge of barely being human comprehensible and barely practically machine computable. This is part of why a lot of the results are so bass ackwards in how they've developed, by luck someone has glimpsed something weird and after the fact realised what the mathematics and meaning of the thing they've glimpsed is.
