hello /sci/, dumbfag here

I'm going into precal/trig for my junior year and it says to get a graphing calculator. any commendation on a certain one I should get?

>> No.1032832

underage b&

>> No.1032831

TI-84 silver edition

>> No.1032840

I got through vector calculus and Differential equations in college with out one.

They're a scam. All you need is a scientific calculator and a bunch of paper.

>> No.1032833

Your too young to be on this board. Get a TI-83 plus and play gaems.

>> No.1032845

get any one, as long as you know how to use it they are almost all the same

>> No.1032863

any calculators with tetris?

>> No.1032872

Ti-83 or Ti-84 were easily what most people use.

That is what is what I would suggest.

>> No.1032883

Graphing calculators are toys, and you do not need them for any math class ever unless your teacher explicitly forces you to buy one.

>> No.1032884

>>1032840
yeah, you could be a beast and do all your math by hand, spending hours scrawling out answers to each question
or, you could type a line into a graphing calculator and have the answer given to you in even more precision, spending no more than 10 seconds to do so

get a ti-89 titanium, it can do symbolic calculations

>> No.1032887

IT IS 12,

SAGE!!!!

>> No.1032888

in uni, my graphing calc sat idle. In my math classes, we werent allowed to use a calc, for the other classes, we needed a non-programmable one.

Honestly, through all my high school and college career, I've never had to use anything more complex than this baby here. You really don't need a graphing calculator to succeed in the class; it's optional crap. And no, I am not an enlish major either.

Differential equations is far more abstract than the math OP is going to see.

OP a basic scientific calculator should be fine as long as it has sin/cos and preferably tan

>> No.1032928

>>1032840
no one needs them, but if your in highschool it prevents you from having to pay attention in class

>> No.1032957

>>1032926
The problem with your statement is that most children learn long division and matrix operations by hand before they start using calculators for the job.

Graph sketching is often entirely taught by calculators; students don't have enough time to learn how to do it by hand. They don't have a better understanding.

If you go to a school thats worth a damn they won't let you use calculators on exams for any math course.

>> No.1032977

>>1032960
It's not really whether or not the school is worth a damn; the higher up you go in math, the less it has to do with computations.

>> No.1032982

>>1032926
thanks to learning how to sketch a graph, I can do it in my head anf I don't waste valuable seconds by typing the equation into my calculator, i already know what the graph looks like.

If you want to be a cunt and show your classmates up you can buy a Ti-89 Titanium. But, as you are a dumbfag, you may have to act like a senior in my freshman year (high school that is) pre-calc/trig class, and say, "Ay yo, This calculator have many words on a button, how that work mister?"

TL;DR? Get a Ti-89 and be forced to do nothing but solve function

When you get to these "big boy equations," you won't even need calculators. It's all undefined variables and concepts.

BTW, thanks for the stock market failures.
