I've got a question for any of you IQ chads who might be familiar with the studies on it. Making bad decisions is my forté, and I started smoking weed in adolescence (17), smoking on and off for 5 years , self treating my depression. Anyway, when I first started, there was a period I smoked skunk for a few weeks, nearly a month, a few days every week. After that I stopped for a while. But I feel it has permanently fried me, immediately upon quitting (after the month described) I felt like I couldn't memorize anything, that my memorization ability has spiraled downwards.

Then I continued with smoking on and off for 5 years now, smoking the least in the first 4 years, and most this last year, when I probably smoked as much as I smoked in all 4 years. This last year, there hasn't been a month I haven't lit up a few times, and a period of 2-3 months of almost smoking everyday after my grandma has passed. I quit just recently, a month ago. Memory has gotten better drastically, and so has my cognitive ability and computational speed.

Now, I'm afraid I have permanently altered my brain (be it skunk or weed or depression) for the worse. I took a newspaper yesterday and I couldn't understand satire, or some funny remarks they made. This has been happening a lot recently, where I don't understand what I read, or I'm super slow at processing the meaning of it. Like, very slow. Sometimes I just give up and don't even try to understand what was said/written. I went to a neurologist a few months ago complaining I can't understand double negation anymore. I've been smoking during that period too.

Now, I know correlation doesn't equal causation, so me smoking weed repeatedly doesn't have to be the sole reason my cognition is getting worse, because as I mentioned, I started smoking when I became depressed (which I still am but to a lessened degree), so my reduced cognition could as well be from depression.

I know no one asked for my life story, but I'm asking here because I presumed, this being a science based board of a Mongolian basket knitting website, that some of you may be familiar with the studies involving marijuana, and and could tell me if it's likely to regain my previous self back either after treating my depression successfully, or quitting weed for good.

a month is not enough time to get over the permafry, which is caused by the fact that THC is lipid-soluble, gets stored in fat cells and therefore takes significantly longer than most drugs to completely clear your system, some of the metabolites and secondary cannabinoids likely can stay even longer.

At this point you would probably still fail a sensitive urine test, you've quite simply not had enough time to pass everything. Just give it a couple more months and you'll be clear

Its all in your head, you sound like a naturally anxious hypochondriac desu. I smoked weed 3 to 4 times a day from 13 to 24 and quit. I was a bright kid and wasted a lot of academic potential early on, but am better than ever after quitting and getting my degree.

Just to chime in, that's anecdotal and quite honestly you might be really talented or just really lucky. Tons of studies have shown that consistent usage of marijuana at that early age does significantly affect brain development.

Hey anon; podiatrist here.

I use to smoke alot of weed when I lived out near colorado. I did it because it not only helped me forget about all the people suffering with puss leaking out of their feet, telling people we'll have to amputate, etc.... but also the smell. Not only of rotting human flesh, but of nursing homes... the smell of feces and urine that seems to permeate everything.... not to mention the smell of the toenail fungus itself; and the dust and bits of nail that get stuck in your eyes/nose that not only bothers you all night, after you're finished, but over the weekend as well.

Feel the same. Smoked for a month when I was 17, then also hit acid once.
It was an experimental phase of my life, and never did anything since.
Now I'm 20 and I feel my short-term memory is really bad. I constantly misplace things, and forget what I am doing.
Sometimes when I pay go to the grocery I forget if I paid or not.
Although for me my energy goes up and down, sometimes my brain isn't working at all, while at other times it's analyzing everything.
Might also be that I'm bipolar, both my grandfather and father is. But if so I didn't notice anything until after I smoked

Weird, glad it was able to help you, personally though weed amplifies the effect of things on my senses and has a bit of drag over into when I'm sober (for about 2/3 of a day after I've used). If I were in your situation, weed would probably make me extra sick because it would amplify the diseased foot fungus smell instead of making it more bearable.
