Is it possible to get Into artificial intelligence with a degree in Math and Statistics?

>> No.10288106

>>10287933
Yes. Moreover, math, stats, and (to some degree) cs are the only degrees relevant to ai.

From what I've seen, all you really need is some half-assed idea how to write code and a Masters degree in marketing.

You are overqualified...

Just become an autodidact. Here's Google's machine learning crash course to get you started.

Yes, it's the preferred method.

really? I can't code too well yet, but if I applied for artificial intelligence for grad school would I get BTFO?

>> No.10288223

>>10287933
Mathematics is usually enough to get into graduate computer science, so it would think that would be perfectly fine.

>> No.10288237

DO CS. The amount of math you need for most AI stuff is minimal. You will pick it up as you go.

Do u have research experience and recs? Those are gonna you btfo way more than yout degree.

A CS degree is a joke and won't help you in graduate school.

Start coding everyday you nigger. Python is the defacto standard for machine learning. R if you want to suck cocks

>> No.10288885

>>10288237
Wrong. Programming is something you can pick up, but the math necessary for ai (advanced stats and lin alg) isn't feasible to learn and master quickly.

>> No.10288890

>>10288219
nope. Many students from top uni PhD programs can't even code a solution to fizzbuzz.

>people here thinking a math degree is more useful for AI than CS
The sheer mental retardation expressed by people here is otherworldly. Why are math fags so delusional? The worst part is you people are so delusional you purposely spread false information to justify your shit life choices. Computer science isn't too blame for you studying theoretical math and now working at McDonald's. That was your fault.

OP, people here are bitter math fags who have no clue what they're talking about. If you want real advice go somewhere else otherwise you'll fall for the memes and end up homeless with a PhD in theoretical math.
Also math and stats are fine if you want to do research whereas CS is fine for both research and industry. I can't be bothered to go in depth.

Welp, looks like I'm too late. You already fell for the memes.
>>10288885
The fact you think CS is programming goes to show how retarded you are and how any /sci/ opinion on CS should be disregarded.

Thanks for proving my point.

Anyways enjoy your calculus degree. I heard calculus IX is really fun. Should help you land that job in your local McDonald's.

If you can do it without degree, mathematics can for sure help.

I didn't mean to say cs = programming. Just that for core ai research, theoretical cs such as alg and pl aren't really needed.

look at any uni's curriculum, you'll see the deep theoretical courses in machine learning are offered by statistics departments.
cs departments seem more interested in the practical stuff like algorithms, dataset curation, normalization methods, etc.
in short, you actually have an advantage if you know a lot of statistics
