Well statistics is just really useful for pretty much anything, so if a psych student is serious about doing good research, its just natural that they'd be motivated to learn the methods really well

Come to think of it a lot of polisci professors at my uni were like that, when they all went into academia they all got gud at stats

Yeah, psych students on average are bad at math.
Yet they are required to do a shitton of statistics, possibly more than a math student that doesn't specialize in it.

Some of them become actually good at it.
