SpaceX won the bidding process for Launch Pad 39A, Blue Origin was one of the competitors, it wasn't given it was won. The US airforce leased launch pads LC-40 and SLC-4 to SpaceX because nobody else was going to use them, they were old and decrepit pads last used for launching Titan 4 rockets; SpaceX rebuilt the pads with their own infrastructure. Blue Origin got the short end of the stick and were given LC-36 which barely anyone knows exists.

During long-term storage in space, it'll be allowed to boil off little by little. The larger the vehicle, the slower the relative rate of boil-off, so this works much better for something big like Starship, and it can be tolerated on a half-year+ coast to Mars. The same applies to the methane fuel, which boils at about the same temperature as the oxygen.

They might add crycoolers later, but it's tricky in space.

Why can't a space company make rockets that simply deliver fuel tanks to a starship as it's leaving the locality? You could create docks for the tanks and then once you're in space, deliver 5 tanks like the ship in op has, instead of just what it can carry into orbit by itself.

A roof isn't something you can just buy like a can of coke. It's a construction project. It takes time, and requires regulatory approval and appropriately skilled workers. You don't announce a new type of roof and then build a million of them later that year. Of course it will at least be several years from the initial announcement before they ramp up to a significant rate of installations.

This is all, "Hey, these things aren't happening immediately, therefore they will never happen." Never mind that Musk has taken things from small beginnings to world-class operations over years before. SpaceX is the world's leading commercial launch provider. Of course they load it in a liquid state on Earth. The density would be far too low with it as a gas. So they cool it to cryogenic temperatures before pumping it into the rocket.

Space doesn't really have a temperature. You're in a near-perfect vacuum, which is neither hot nor cold, it's just nothing. What space has is radiation, especially sunlight. If you shield the sunlight perfectly (like with multiple layers of reflective foil, held out away from the spacecraft), and you're away from any planet, then all you've got to cope with are starlight and background radiation, so the shaded part of your spacecraft should be able to radiate heat to reach a temperature as low as a few degrees above absolute zero.

Without these elaborate measures, a spacecraft will normally be warmed by sunlight, to well above the boiling point of liquid oxygen. That's why the basic plan is to let it boil off little by little in Starship.

Is it supposed to serve as the heat shielding for interplanetary re-entry? I don't believe that'll work. I don't think it'll even work for re-entry from LEO. So that's one side that won't be bare steel.

As for the top side, with the windows, I doubt it'll be bare steel either. There'll probably be insulation and a weather protective surface, maybe with some micrometeoroid protection. More to the point, they won't aim that side at the sun because of the windows. They're going to put the heat shield toward the sun.

Its literally a property of the materials. Steel has a fatigue limit and aluminum doesn't.
