The reaction that normal people have to encountering transgendered people is often disgust and revulsion. Even people who aren't bigoted and don't actually have any hatred or moral problem with transgenderism are going to be slightly disturbed. How would you feel if everybody who you encountered had a look of disgust in their eye? And of course there will also be people who openly mock and harass trans people. It's hard not to regret an unalterable decision you've made that may have consequences later on. A lot of these people chase an incredibly temporary and unrealistic dream and try to achieve it through irreversible medical operations. As they age, these people will experience a myriad of health issues related to medical and lifestyle choices, and they will also be given a lot of time to dwell on their choices. I imagine it's during then that they realize the one-way nature of their choices, and from there regret slowly snowballs into suicide.

People who wish to modify in their body in extreme ways are doing so to fix their dysfunctional behaviour, which are more than often not caused by having a "wrong" gender etc.

After going through extensive modifications (which almost never finish anyway), the reality sets in that their modifications haven't fixed any dysfunctional behaviour; their still depressed, anxious, nervous and unable to cope with reality.

All of this can be summarised with:

People who are transgender are likely the result of childhood sexual abuse, or an emasculated childhood, or many other traumatic experiences. They may simply just be a complete loser who is looking for a victim complex to justify their failures.
