Is this book actually good? I haven't touched any math for more than 4 years, I can't even do simple algebraic equations but I want to give it another try and later try up to calculus (not sure what book to use for calculus either). Pls help

No, but why don't you read it and find out?

It's extremely good, it's all the help you'll ever need. Good luck.

It's kind of a big effort for me to try out math again so I wouldn't want to try some book only to find out it's not helpful and I have to restart and read another

If you're willing to put in effort, read Gelfand's Algebra

Try Khan academy, and there's plenty of uni sources for problems you can input into Wolfram alpha to see where you get stumped.

Once you have a firm grasp of pemdas and the balancing act of algebra, try 'Calculus made easy' which should help with understanding the principles of calculus.

No, it is inadequate, you will not do well in a college Calc course if you just go through Basic Mathematics. Pick one of the bigger and more thorough books on pre-calc off the wiki, I like Stewart’s Precalculus. You can also just compare the beginning chapters of Spivak to Lang’s book and realize you’re fucking stupid and woefully unprepared for that book from Lang.

I will not *just* do BM, Lang, I want to work on my foundations because I can as I said not even do basic manipulations and coordinate system kills me

I am sorry, but I really dislike Khan Academy, I highly prefer reading and writing over listening and typing

You dont need all this bullshit books

Just do basic math by lang
Calc 1-3 whatever
Lin Alg
diff eq
intro to stats
real and complex analysis
probability theory
Abstract alg
etc. into what interests you

the rest is autism tier bullshit you don't need

Pugh is a fucking excellent book, I was just joking around. Unironically the best undergrad analysis book. Consider yourself very lucky.
His exercises are wonderful. Try some of the starred ones! They're really fun.

I think I was unclear, I'm literally taking the class with Charles Pugh (and his textbook ofc) lol, Math 105 at Berkeley.
Sounds promising then if his textbook is any indication.

going through multiple sources and trying to develop your own understanding is not a meme

Which page are you on anon?
I have not heard it being bad by anyone except few saying that he is intimidating (like, he will say "proof is left as an exercise to the reader" even though it's a highschool book when students need learning the most).
It's great for self study. I suspect that math teacher in highschool dislikes it because it has lots of text, that teacher most likely prefers a book like James Stewart's Calculus that explains very little and is full of exercises, which is perfect for a teacher because they can explain it their way instead of author's method.

When I was prepping to get back to school I tried this:

https://schoolyourself.org/

Will get you through algebra, geometry, and some trig.

I know someone who took his class. He went very fast and further than the graduate course (complex analysis). Only 5 people out of 30 first day were left by the end. Good luck!
