Plot twist: it was Eudoxus.

He also came up with the first astronomical theory and he is likely the one who came up with the abstract theory of proportion used in the 5th Book of Euclid's Elements (which is basically a precursor of Dedekind's construction of the real numbers).

Eudoxus is the unsung hero of mathematics. Most likely he was too smart for his times.
