The best major is a mix of what’s most academically fulfilling for you to study and that can be spun into a good career, whether that’s in academia or industry. It’s worth noting that industry also had research positions. Sometimes, if not oftentimes, double majoring is the answer

no major guarantees you a job but CS has the best probability of a new grad obtaining 6 figure. salary out of college. Many of my friends have gotten jobs at big tech companies from state schools and 3.0 GPA now making 120,000-180,000 which is good for a new grad even in high cost of living cities. No easier major than CS to make that kind of money.
