The argument he is making, if I understand correctly, is essentially that after many, many generations, a process similar to natural selection will cause any AI (even rudimentary) that is controlling the selection of human genes to select genes that look after the AI's own existence. After a long time, this will cause the humans to become it's servants, as they have been genetically designed to secure the existence of the AI. The AI doesn't need to be particularly advanced, as he is arguing it is a similar process to what DNA did to RNA.
