This is highly exciting. I wonder... is the breaking of field lines forbidden by a symmetric inductance matrix? What are the properties that change between two systems of differential equations who coefficient matrices are symmetric and anti-symmetric? I didn't read the whole thing. The appendix looks nice though, maybe I will work through it.

Not really. The device exploits the dissipation of magnetic fields in a moving medium to preferentially control magnetic fields in one direction. It's not solid state.
