>Is X a meme major?
Unless it is Biomedical, Mechatronics, or Systems Engineering your major XE major is not a “meme”. Additional meme majors include chemical and nuclear engineers. They are challenging degrees but there are just not enough jobs to keep up with graduating students. Many bitter anons in these threads are ChemE students or unemployed ChemE graduates.

>Why is Mechatronics or Bio Engineering a meme degree?
They are often very shallow degrees at the undergraduate level. Students end up becoming a master of none and are outclassed by the more common disciplines. For the longest period of time these courses were only Master/PHD opportunities. A good undergraduate program is very rare for either discipline. Your meme state school isn’t one of those programs.

>I can’t find a job
What is your GPA? What is your experience? Is your resume shit? Do you interview well? When did you start looking?
>GPA
A GPA of 3.0 is the bare minimum for most companies.
>Experience
Experience is helpful but is not needed to get a job. You will have a much tougher time though and will need to grind out applications. College clubs and personal projects are good ways to get at least some experience if it is not professional experience.
>Resume
Post your resume if you want it to be reviewed. Try and quantify actions at your job, don’t just list your responsibilities. If you have no professional experience emphasize your school projects/clubs/personal projects.
>Interviewing
It helps to practice and write down your answers to question that you think you will be asked. Using Glassdoors can be helpful when trying to figure out what kind of questions specific companies ask.
>Candidate
You don’t need to be a 3.9 GPA, 3 internship, non white student to get a job in Engineering. Just keep in mind Apple/Boeing/Broadcom/Google/Intel/etc, don’t generally hire <3.0 GPA no experience autists that are incapable of talking to other human beings.

You will make it!

I have a question for the process engineers: Do you have any interesting comparisons of good vs bad process engineering?

I was discussing with my friend how a firm like ducati routinely makes less reliable machines than, say, honda - despite using much higher quality materials and price points etc. I said this was down to the lack of economy of scale, and they just cannot invest in fine tuning quality control in the same way that huge firms can. But I feel like this was a shallow answer. Any anons care to shed some light?

Shit just raised its price a 110% and they will probably raise it again next month. I just don't think I'll be able to pay for it. There's a chance, though. But it's improbable.

Other option is going for a less prestigious, but still good university. It's fairly far away from home, but there's subway. The problem is that is doesn't have the option to study EE. It only has these:

Serious career/life question

I graduated with a Math/CS degree five years ago but I've been underemployed (and now unemployed) since then. Never got a development job. I'm smart and excellent at math though, my average was 87% (my school doesn't do GPA) which is nearly 4.0. I spent all my time studying, but never did any of the things you are actually supposed to do like network, apply for internships (and get laid) because of extreme social anxiety.

I'm 28 and thinking that I might be best off just starting over, with a new degree. Fuck competing with pajeets over some dumb code monkey job. I want something where I get to use mathematics or physics on the job, not writing code that any brainlet can do.

So I'm thinking that I'll go get a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, reset the clock (hopefully). This time I'll do co-op, network properly, make friends, actually apply for internships and get to know my profs. Join clubs and shit. Maybe get involved with robotics, shit like that. Be a student instead of a nameless faceless number who just turned in assignments and wrote exams.

What do you guys think? Will I be able to make it? Could this actually work? Am I just going to be some weird freak or outcast? Will already having a Bachelors fuck me over in some way? Will having an employment gap fuck me?

>> No.10089697

>>10089190
Your biggest problem for getting employed is your long-term unemployment, and I doubt getting a new bachelor's will fix that. If you could somehow fix that, your maths degree should have a chance of landing you a job as an analyst or something. Also, you really will need to work on your social anxiety no matter what

I'm both EE and IE major. IE degree is generally more flexible and has more jobs than EE, but both are pretty good. Both use a lot of math (mostly calculus and complex analysis for EE and mostly stats and graph theory for IE), so i hope you like math.
Telecom is mostly an EE subfield, so if you need to pick the most similar to EE, pick that one. I think most telecom jobs require a master at least, i think, and telecom has fewer jobs than both EE and IE, but still a pretty good degree.
If you pick IE, make sure the program is good, i have seen that IE is generally worse on american units (make sure the degree requires you to take a lot of stats classes, process classes (fluid mechanics, thermodynamics), mathematical finance and some manufacturing classes. If you can, ignore all the brainlet marketing classes, they are mostly useless if you like engineering. You can pick a couple of business classes if you plan on having your own business in the future, but make sure the professors are legit.

CAD Design Engineer working automotive here. As far as Honda is concerned, their parts look like they were made with hammer by some old Japanese peasant on a rice farm. It is "reliable", but seriously IMO they are missing the point.

Also on RFQ phase suppliers are bound by contract to improve the process and do some sort of optimizations to be able to conduct further business with Honda, but this is nihil novi, all OEMs do similar stuff.

Btw, process isn't that important if it comes to reliability - high Cpk/PPK just means that suppliers have fewer complaints and that manufactured parts have tighter tolerances than design allows.

It's just conservative and a pain in the ass. It won't make car better if the design in itself is poor.

Also new Civic is designed in India by external/internal company that makes welded assemblies and they send it back to Honda in USA for official release.

The first half of this is pretty awful advice, especially leaving off projects. Even if they weren't award-winning quality, deliberately omitting your electronics experience on an EE application is pants-on-head retarded.

But your work experiences section should definitely be more than just 1 bullet. Irrelevant work experience is where you spin a few bullets into making you look responsible and capable of handling your shit. Cut out some of the flood of irrelevant courses you've taken if you have to make room (no one gives a fuck that you took a probability class).

It depends on the CAD program. They usually have system requirements and recommended specs on the site or on the packaging if you somehow managed to buy it offline. I would not recommend an i5, dual core processor, but it might work if you're alright with it consistently taking a while to load and possibly crashing every once in a while. Also the amount of RAM you have will be important for this sort of application. I would recommend at least 4 GB.

The processor is essentially the thing that makes things run faster, while the RAM is more for how many programs/how large of programs can be used at a time. It depends on what sort of stuff you'll be doing with the software. I'm not too familiar with NX, but CAD software in general is notorious for using a lot of RAM. On par with video editing software, if you're familiar with that.
Personally I would get a computer that has at least 8 GB RAM and a quad core (multithreading preferred but not required) if you'll be doing a good bit of CAD work. Getting a more powerful PC is also an investment for the future, as it's futureproofed for future programs that might require more processing power than the programs you use today.
If you're looking to save some money, you could check to see if the school has laptops that can be checked out or if they have computer labs with this software already on it. Assuming you're at a school and not, say, at home doing school online.

The GPU isn't a very big deal with CAD afaik. The FEA bit is a little concerning, since it tends to be more process heavy, but the school computers I used for FEA had similar specs and worked alright, albeit slow. I think your choice is a good choice for the price range you're looking for. If worse comes to worst you could always install a program that lets you use the computing power of your home PC on your portable PC, albeit at the cost of some speed and security. I personally haven't used a PC like what you're looking at, but given the information I have I don't think it would be a particularly bad choice. I'd say go for it.

The downward force would push the object further into the water, increasing the displacement of the object- the force of water attempting to push it back up would balance out, until the object fully submerges. At this point, if the object is open-topped, it fills with water and most likely sinks. If it's not, if the force pushing it down is removed, it will pop back up until the weight of the water displaced is equivalent to the weight of the object.

The downward acceleration that would equal 630N of force is (630/80) = 7.875 m/s^2. But the acceleration of the human is the max force applied minus G, which we have a downward of G and an upwards of (630/80), which when we add together, gives us (-9.81+7.785 = -1.395)m/s^2, or rounded for sigfigs, 1.4 m/(s^2).

And yeah, everyone had a varying degree of books. I carried a rolling crate containing Lindeburg’s CERM followed by 5 books I used at work such as the Highway Capacity Manual. Some people tried to prepare a little too much. Basically went out and bought freaking wagons or made rolling crate trains.
