Going on from the "First words on Mars" Thread.

I'll be naming a Star for a very close friend of mine who is not long for this world.

As part of this process, a small 'passage' can be written. My friend is a huge astrofag, and this will mean the world to him. I'd like to get something written that has to do with moving forward and the insignificance of his death in the grand scheme of the universe, and that Star will represent him for the coming years until it too dies...

Sounds a bit harsh and cold, but that is his mentality.

Ideas?

Life is but an eddy in the current of entropy, and one life a mote of dust momentarily suspended in it.

Those naming star things are bullshit. It's not a real scientific name, it's just a certificate saying it's called whatever you want. Nobody in the science community will ever use the name you give it.

Yeah, I got one.

Insight is the vessel in which all men have traversed the world. Through will, strength, and genius we have striven to touch the stars and encapsulate the sun in our palms. Within reach all of this shall soon be, through life and death we persevere and move on. As all life started with the stars, we return to them in our deaths. Which is why your friend's insight is not too keen - as no one actually recognizes the third party naming of stars or other astral bodies. His death will in effect be just as a useless and uncared for much like naming that star.

Actually, let's tweak this to:
"Life is but an eddy in the current of entropy, and a single life like a mote of dust momentarily suspended in it."

This.

But I'm going to assume you meant to say "Hypothetically, you get to actually name a star and include a passage. What do you do?"

I am aware of this, it is just a gesture.

A bit camp, but something nice given the circumstances.

Call the star "Yaweh is a cocknugget"
