Are you happy that you're majoring in math, leading to an inevitable unemployed adulthood?

I'm 24 and make $250,000 a year as an investment banker

If all of you are so smart, why don't you enter finance and make a FUCK TON of money?

What's the downside?

You could make the same argument about human trafficking

I don't want money. I just want to not waste my life working on some bullshit I don't care for. I does not matter if I make $50k or $500k. I'm still wasting my precious time working for the man, probably on something I do not morally agree with and definitely something I care for. I am not a consumerist NPC so money is nothing to me.

I thought math majors usually end up in high paying finance positions if academia doesn't work out or is this another /sci/ meme I fell for

Personally I plan to do a post-doc than try to get into some administrative job in the public sector or at some non-profit scientific institute. I would not tolerate working for Satan.

But I'm not a math major. Frankly I'm not good enough with nor care about money to work in finance. It's not a cope either, I genuinely want to work in an ecological field. If it gives me enough money to buy beer and a 4x4 truck then that's great. But the most fulfilled I've ever felt is doing this work and I wouldn't trade it for an early retirement.

There's plenty of downsides on this endeavor, though.

Because of sunk cost and because I think there's more jobs in stem than in business.
One of the people I know went into business graduated this summer and can't find a job.

That fundamentally misunderstands how human life works. You do your prime work in your 20s and 30s. Then you move into management and use your experience to help the young ones. If you retire you just have nothing to do. Then you are like a headless chicken that cannot accomplish anything but sit around eat and shit.
