OK so we've all seen what girl notes look like. Pic related is a typical example from someone on my facebook. Now, obviously taking notes like this is a huge waste of time, but I still tend to feel a desire to have my notes look somewhat neat, complete, and organized, and I've been wondering whether I've been completely wasting my time. I've noticed that many people who are really adept in their discipline just don't seem to be so careful when writing notes for personal use. Maybe I should just be writing down the things I suspect I won't remember, rather than trying to be complete, and maybe I shouldn't be giving as much of a fuck about how things are arranged on the piece of paper at the end. Ultimately, the point of the whole exercise should be in my head, not on the paper, right?

>> No.10056195

This shit is stupid and a waste of time. If you want to learn something then do exercises that force you to think of the shit you learned in novel ways.

I think it can be pretty great for heavy-memorization subjects like chemistry, biology or medicine where you can be replaced by intelligent database queries in 10 years.

My notes are typically
>Important dates and exams
>Exam hints mentioned in class
>Exercises and proofs etc. done on the white board

Other than that you're not gonna reread any notes. Just study the textbook and make your most important annotations there.

Notes like the ones in your pic are one of the many reasons that girls spend more than twice as much time on the same STEM degree that men do.

Speaking from a mathfag perspective: No. Anything you might write is already better written on a book. The only advantage of taking notes is that it helps you memorize stuff but this >>10056195 is a much better way to do that imo.

I rewrite all the notes we are given in print outs as the lecture goes on, my notes are exact copies of what the print outs say but I find actually writing it down embeds the information into my brain somehow. I have a very visual memory so somehow it works for me. Also I find when it comes back to revision reading notes I wrote out myself by hand seem way more accessible than digital print outs even if the content is the same.

just remember the shit bro, that's what matters
if there's a chance you might forget it write it down in a way that you can find it, it doesn't necessarily have to look pretty
And the only way to know what you don't know is to test yourself
so it goes like this:
>takes notes of everything in class
>read them over
>do some practice questions
>redo your notes
But if there's slides then just fill in the blanks in class np

Ok, so taking notes from a math text book is a waste of time and one should focus on the exercises. But what about lectures?

Is it also a waste of time to take notes during lectures? Does having the lecture recorded makes it not worth it to
write it down on a peace of paper or in the computer?

I took "neat notes" for my bio 1 & 2 in college, it helped so fucking much. Neat notes help a lot when trying to learn something by memory, I've learned this through experience.

I don't do this with math though. Math is more about learning how to do an exercise than just memorization. Don't bother with neat notes outside of classes that require memorization.

I'm unsure if this would fit under "girl notes", but I find that the color contrast, with different/key Ideas, is worth the extra time it takes switching pens back and forth, as I find it makes it far easier to skim without missing anything.

>>10056183
Depends on how you learn. When I'm working from a textbook I usually make fairly comprehensive notes as the slow thinking in writing things out lets me understand the concepts. I never look at the notes again, it just lets me remember them.

When I was in lectures I almost never took notes, I just listened, and asked questions here and there. I'd write down some derivations, or assumptions that weren't obvious, but that's about it. Again I never looked at my notes, there were just a tool for understanding and remembering.

No thanks. I had an easy enough time finding sex in undergrad without resorting to classmate orbiters.

And no, it's not a good idea to copy someone else's notes. Their minds are usually organised in a different and inferior way (not because they're girls, but because they're the type of person who needs to spend that much time taking meticulous notes).

Like any young man your mind was saying: Girl, pussy, good! But just imagine if it was a bloke you will quickly see there is no point in getting his notes.

Just read the textbook, make annotations that are actually worth your time. Organise the material for yourself and you'll review at a much more rapid pace.
