i have a very stupid question

prove to me the average formula

average formula says that (a+b)/2 is equal to the exact middle point between a and b

i still don't get why is that true

Get a ruler and draw a line. Fix a b on said line and then divide the distance between them by 2 and put a point there. There you go.

Take average - a and average - b and compare them. Those are the distance between the average and a or b respectively.

To get from a to b, you add (b-a) to a - that's pretty clear, that a+b-a=b.
To get halfway there, add only half of (b-a).
a + 0.5(b-a) = a - 0.5a + 0.5b = 0.5a + 0.5b = 0.5(a+b)

a = 6
b = 4
a and b = 10
(6+4)/2 = 5
Where's my fields medal
