Is this game considered /sci/ enough? It's regarded generally as pretty detailed, although it's nowhere near as complicated as actual space travel. Does anyone here play?

This is my Duna orbiter. It's the first thing I assembled in orbit. Hopefully it'll have enough punch to get to Duna, drop a couple of satellites and return.

it's only /sci/ if you write your own orbital transfer calculator and install a mod implementing actual newtonian mechanics and dropping the patched conic approximation that the default game uses. (this is easy because the solar system is laid out such that you can avoid the 3-body problem if you ignore orbital perturbations of celestial bodies)

Yeah. I play on a PS4, so....

it's only /sci/ then until you try to put something at a lagrange point and become disappointed by the limitations of the game engine

Playing it i've got a solid grasp on the bases of orbital mechanics and rocket engineering. It's a game, but also a good learning tool. However, you can fing /kspg/ on /vg/.

Playing KSP should be mandatory in High School physics class.

Also, to get a passing grade you have to put something into orbit without MechJeb.

The game is pretty awesome, but lacks calculation tools. I should be able to calculate how much delta V I need for a mission without installing mods.

Children of a Dead Earth is better because it uses Hamiltonian symplectic integration rather than patched conics.

brainlet
you are able to with data about the planets
oh wait you don't like to do actual simple math per hand do you

but thats fucking piss easy for kerbin and closest planets even with 0 calculations
just slap enough stages and fiddle with orbit until it works

At the very least they will know more about mechanics.

I don't think /sci/ would consider itself /sci/ enough. So I don't care much for that.

As for the game - I hate how laggy and time consuming it is. You have to waste so much time to get anywhere, it's just like the producers - they waste time and still no updates. A disgrace for so much potential. I am annoyed, because I care.

No, you don't. Although, you used the term "rocket engineering" instead of "rocket science" so I'll have to give you that.
